The Farmington Land Trust celebrated the land with the first ever Harvest Farm to Table Tasting and silent auction benefit on the West District Nature Preserve, Sunday September 20th.

Over 190 people enjoyed a once in a lifetime opportunity to truly enjoy the benefits of the land on this private nature preserve. With the contributions of Hein, Krell, Pogson, Sub Edge, and Wollenberg farms along with Jones Apiaries and Highland Park Market, our caterer, Billings Forge, created delicious foods. Maximum beverage arranged for local vineyards, breweries and spirit makers to provide samples of their creations.

Tina Delaney led walks into the nature preserve, exploring the history of the land and the importance of its preservation. Local artists contributed paintings, inspired by the Nature Preserve, to the silent auction, tickets to a Broadway Bushnell Series performance with pre-theater dinner in the exclusive Horace Bushnell suite, a weekend at the Copper Beech Institute, and a Main on Main dinner party were also included.

Sisters Mary Bushley and Ruth B. Childs donated their family farm to the FLT in 1995 to “ensure its natural beauty and openness for years to come”. Preserving and protecting this parcel, along with the Land trust's other 63 properties, requires considerable financial resources. The Harvest Farm to Table Tasting is crucial to raising funds to continue the important work of the Land Trust so that we, and future generations, can enjoy all that the Land has to offer.

All funds raised will support the ongoing mission of the Land Trust to preserve and protect the land in perpetuity.
