Douglass-Mount Parcel & Pier
The Douglass-Mount parcel is a wooded lot sited at a picturesque bend in the Farmington River. It is easily accessed off of Railroad Avenue in Unionville, or from the parking area off of River Road. Visitors to the parcel may see Great Blue Herons, Black bears, White-tailed deer, and Bald Eagles, among other wildlife who make their lives and homes on or near the river.
Until September 2025, this parcel was home to an accessible fishing pier that was completed in 2006 thanks to the generosity of developers Tom Zipp, Jake Carrier and Geoff Sager. It was designed by David Eveleth. Changes in the course of the river created wear and tear on the pier that necessitated its removal and restoration of the riverbank.
As part of our promise to steward this parcel for current and future generations, FLT will build a new, 80-foot accessible pier and viewing platform, restoring access to the river for everyone. The pier will be named Polly's Pier, in honor of long-time Farmington resident Polly Hincks and her commitment to maximizing independence for people with physical disabilities. Polly was instrumental to the creation of New Horizons Village in Unionville.
