About Us
A Commitment to Conservation
Founded in 1971, the Farmington Land Trust (FLT) is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization caring for more than 300 acres over 70 parcels throughout Farmington, Connecticut.

FLT’s mission is to permanently protect and care for open space in Farmington, for the benefit of current and future generations and the native wildlife and plants with whom we share the land. Because once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

This mission is fulfilled through stewardship, education, acquisitions, and advocacy.

FLT is headquartered in the picturesque Unionville section of Farmington at the newly restored Wilcox-Bushley Homestead and Environmental Education Center.

The historic house and property was once a successful farm, at one time growing from its original 100 to 275 acres. Much of that land has been developed, but what remains is now known as the West District Nature Preserve.

A History and a Future Rooted in the Land

Sisters Mary and Ruth Bushley, who grew up on the farm, knew and loved deeply the land that supported them and their family. They shared a long-term vision for its future. Through several gifts, they donated their home and the 24 surrounding acres to the Farmington Land Trust over a number of years.
